Student H1N1 immunization clinics this week – The Student Health Center will hold H1N1 and regular seasonal flu vaccination clinics from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday – Nov. 16, 17, and 19. All clinics will be held at the Student Health Center in Stuyvesant Hall. No appointments are necessary or accepted. To ensure the clinics operate as smoothly as possible, please note the following:
H1N1 INFORMATION
• You MUST pre-register for H1N1 vaccination online, print your registration form, and bring the form with you in order to be vaccinated. NO EXCEPTIONS. You may pre-register at https://h1n1vaccine.odh.ohio.gov.
• Ohio Wesleyan has received enough H1N1 vaccine to accommodate our entire student body.
• Per Centers for Disease Control guidelines, H1N1 vaccination is available only to students under age 25. (OWU is not permitted to distribute vaccine to non-students.)
• H1N1 vaccination will be via nasal mist, unless you have a medical condition that prevents you from using the mist, in which case you will receive a shot.
• Cost is $5 per student and may be paid via cash or check, or charged to your student account at the time of service.
REGULAR SEASONAL FLU INFORMATION
• Regular season flu vaccine is in limited supply and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
• All regular seasonal flu vaccine is injectable (vs. nasal mist) so that students will be able to receive both flu vaccinations at once.
• Cost for regular seasonal flu is $20 per student and may be paid via cash or check, or charged to your student account at the time of service.
All eligible students are urged to receive H1N1 vaccination, but vaccination is especially important if you have a chronic health condition such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or a suppressed immune system. Attention students! - The Transcript student newspaper is now accepting application for leadership positions for the calendar year 2010. These include editor-in-chief, news editor, A&E editor, sports editor, online editor, photo editor, and business manager. To apply, interested individuals must submit a letter of application and resume, including contact information for three references, to adviser Melinda Rhodes. Documents should be submitted digitally to mmrhodes@owu.edu by 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20. Transcript leaders are not required to be journalism majors, but must have an interest in the student press. Knowledge of AP style and Adobe InDesign/Photoshop or concurrent enrollment in editing and design is highly desirable. Essential traits include an ability to multitask, work independently and as part of a team, and meet strict deadlines. Full position descriptions available upon request.
Student Paper Competition - The Woltemade Center announces the opening of this year’s Burton Morgan Entrepreneurship Student Paper Competition. The competition is open to all junior and senior students at OWU and is designed to encourage student research in entrepreneurship and small business. Participating students prepare a 3-5 page proposal that details the background of their topic, the additional research required, and the general results that might be anticipated. The student presenting the winning paper will be awarded $500. Proposals are to be submitted to Professor John Boos no later than Friday, Dec. 4. Any questions? Tutoring services - Consider the Q-Center for extra assistance in a math-related area. Tutors work with you to help clear up problem areas and/or solidify your understanding of the material. Walk-in tutoring is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Individual tutoring is available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. by appointment only. Health tip of the week – Sunscreen can be annoying to put on, but cancer caused by overexposure to sun can be devastating. More sun exposure can occur on cloudy days than sunny days. So don’t forget to wear your sunscreen even on cloudy days. Your skin will thank you in the long run.
Ohio Wesleyan’s Perkins Observatory – Will hold its final November evening program at 8 p.m. Nov. 20. Content varies based on sky conditions, but may include a planetarium show, observatory tours, and star gazing with the 32-inch Schottland Telescope.
